Paper Airplanes - The Collections of Harry Smith
Harry Smith (d. 1991) was a notable experimental filmmaker, anthropologist, and collector of curious objects. Amongst his curios is a collection of 251 paper airplanes, picked off the streets of New York over a 20 year period. It's unclear why he collected these aeronautical creations, but what stands true on each page of this book is that people, whether idly or with intention, created them, taking their random scraps of paper and turning them into something that could fly.
Paper airplanes from the Collections of Harry Smith (1923-1991) are on display in the Getty Gallery of Los Angeles Central Library from 28 September 2018 - 27 January 2019
