Best Card in LA Tote

$ 22.00

Memphis style—the markedly polarizing postmodern art style, iconic of the 80s and 90s—was an ubiquitous enough art form that its ideas made its way into much of the modern library aesthetics and designs (Teenscape, anyone?). Probably one of the most unmistakable forms, Memphis style was often characterized by bright, primary and neon colors and geometric shapes and patterns. Los Angeles Public Library's 90s card design aptly utilized these ideas to evoke Central Library motifs: from the primary color choices, to the flat geometric shapes, to the triangle and stars pattern that captures the Central Library pyramid.

Our new LAPL tote employs Memphis aesthetic to artistically capture something about the Los Angeles Public Library that we all know and love: its boldness, its brightness, and its unique mishmash of modernity and classicism.
