This postcard features an unconventional portrait of Charles Lummis by Richard Elwood Dodge, 1907.
This postcard was produced in conjunction with the exhibit, book and special program series, The Autograph Book of L.A. In 1906, City Librarian Charles Lummis created an Autograph Collection for the LA Public Library, soliciting hundreds of influential people from around the country to “improve” a page of blank stationery for a new permanent collection. In 2018, City Librarian John F. Szabo and curator Josh Kun revived this collection with a contemporary twist, inviting the general public to contribute their stories and unique artwork. This project asks who gets remembered and how we leave our mark on the city.
